Duddilla Sridhar Babu was born on 30 May 1969 into a respected political family in Telangana. He is the son of Late Duddilla Sripada Rao, who served as the Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly (1990–1994). Carrying forward the family’s political legacy, Sridhar Babu combined strong academic foundations with public service.

He is an alumnus of Delhi University, where he studied law, and also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Hyderabad Central University. His education and early exposure to politics gave him a balanced mix of legal knowledge and administrative vision.

Personal Life

Sridhar Babu is married to Shailaja Ramaiyer, an IAS officer of the Telangana cadre. The couple has two children—a son and a daughter. Despite his busy political life, he values family time and enjoys spending free hours with them.

He has also been a keen sportsman, having represented Nizam College and the University of Hyderabad in cricket during his student days. Well-traveled, he has been part of several official delegations and study tours across the United States, Nigeria, and Europe.

A tech-savvy leader, Sridhar Babu strongly believes in the power of technology for social transformation. He envisions Hyderabad as the AI capital of the world, focusing on areas like digital transformation, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and generative AI while also working towards an industry-friendly ecosystem in Telangana.

Political Career

First Term (1999–2004)
Sridhar Babu entered politics in 1999 at the young age of 29, when he was elected from the Manthani constituency on a Congress ticket. Although the party sat in opposition, his victory over Chandrupatla Ram Reddy by more than 15,000 votes marked the beginning of his long political career.

Second Term (2004–2009)
By 2004, he had emerged as a strong district leader, even serving as Karimnagar District Congress President during Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s historic padayatra. In the elections that year, he defeated TDP’s Somarapu Satyanarayana by over 42,000 votes, as Congress returned to power. He was appointed Government Whip in the Assembly, a role that gave him valuable legislative experience.

Third Term (2009–2014)
Re-elected in 2009, Sridhar Babu defeated Putta Madhu of the Praja Rajyam Party by over 13,000 votes, becoming the only Congress MLA from Karimnagar district amidst a strong wave in favor of the TRS-TDP alliance. He was inducted into the cabinet of the united Andhra Pradesh government, holding key portfolios

Fourth Term (2014–2018)
Though Congress faced setbacks after bifurcation, Sridhar Babu remained one of the party’s most prominent leaders in Telangana, working extensively at the grassroots level.

Fifth Term (2018–2023)
He was re-elected again, keeping the Congress flag flying in his constituency and serving in various organizational roles.

Current Role (2023–Present)
In the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections, Sridhar Babu won from Manthani for a record fifth time. Following Congress’s return to power, he was sworn in as a senior Cabinet Minister in Telangana, currently handling some of the state’s most important portfolios:

During his third term (2009–2014) in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, Sridhar Babu was inducted into the state cabinet and entrusted with several important portfolios. He first served as Minister for Higher Education and NRI Affairs (2009–2010), where he worked to improve access to higher studies and strengthen ties with the Telugu diaspora.

From 2010 to 2014, he was appointed Minister for Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs, and Legal Metrology, overseeing essential commodities, consumer protection, and price regulation across the state.

Simultaneously, he was also given charge as Legislative Affairs Minister (2010–2014). In this role, he played a historic part by introducing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Bill in the Assembly, a landmark step that paved the way for the eventual creation of Telangana state in 2014.

After his record fifth victory from the Manthani constituency in the 2023 Telangana Assembly Elections, Sridhar Babu was inducted as a senior Cabinet Minister in the Telangana government. He currently oversees the crucial departments of Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, Industry & Commerce, and Legislative Affairs. These portfolios place him at the heart of the state’s governance, giving him the responsibility of driving Telangana’s digital transformation, strengthening its industrial and commercial base, and guiding legislative processes in the Assembly.

Today, Sridhar Babu is regarded as one of the most senior leaders of the Telangana Congress, balancing his legislative responsibilities with a vision for technology-driven, inclusive development.
