Chief Minister of Telangana
About
Anumula Revanth Reddy (born 8 November 1969) is an Indian politician from Telangana and the current President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). He represents the Malkajgiri constituency in the 17th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from the Indian National Congress (INC).
Early Life & Education
Revanth Reddy was born in Kondareddypally, a census town in Mahabubnagar district, to Anumula Narshimareddy and Ramachandramma. He completed his schooling in the district before moving to Hyderabad for higher education. In 1992, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from A.V. College, affiliated with Osmania University.
From his student days, Revanth was deeply passionate about politics and was actively involved in the Student Union, eventually emerging as a leader. He was also associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during his college years, which played a role in shaping his political thinking.
Personal Life
In 1992, at the age of 24, Revanth Reddy married the niece of Jaipal Reddy, a senior Congress leader and former Union Minister. The marriage further deepened his exposure to national politics. Despite his family connections, Revanth carved out his own independent political path through grassroots work and his sharp oratory skills.
Early Political Career
Revanth Reddy formally entered politics in 2004 by joining the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), founded by legendary actor-turned-politician Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (N.T. Rama Rao). He first contested as an Independent candidate, winning the Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituency (ZPTC) election from Midjil in 2006.
In 2008, he was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) as an independent.
By 2009, Revanth Reddy won as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Kodangal constituency in Andhra Pradesh, securing 46.45% of votes. During his tenure, he took up several developmental projects, including establishing a polytechnic college and initiating the construction of the Kosigi bus depot.
After the formation of Telangana in 2014, Revanth successfully retained his Kodangal seat in the newly formed state’s Assembly elections, this time with a majority of 14,614 votes. He was soon recognized as a strong voice of opposition and was appointed Floor Leader of the TDP in Telangana Legislative Assembly.
Transition to Congress
In 2017, Revanth Reddy left the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and officially joined the Indian National Congress (INC). By 2018, he was appointed as one of the Working Presidents of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), marking his rise in the party’s state leadership.
National Politics
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Revanth Reddy contested from the Malkajgiri constituency (the largest parliamentary constituency in India by electorate size) on a Congress ticket. He won the seat with 38.6% votes, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 10,919 votes. His victory established him as one of the prominent Congress leaders in Telangana at the national level.
TPCC President
In June 2021, Revanth Reddy was appointed as the President of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC). Known for his aggressive political style, sharp attacks on opponents, and ability to connect with grassroots workers, Revanth has since played a central role in reviving Congress’s organizational strength in Telangana.
