Viewpoint: Why the proposed 130th Amendment to the Constitution will be challenging to execute

Despite aiming to ensure probity among top leaders, the Bill is legally and practically flawed— from violating SC rulings to governance paralysis On August 20, 2025, the Constitution (130th) Amendment Bill, 2025, and its companion bills were introduced in Parliament and sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee for review. The Bills are riddled with contradictions, despite their seeming moral soundness—to maintain integrity among the highest levels of government. The main idea behind the three bills is that the Prime Minister, Chief Minister, or Minister will lose their position on the 31st day if they are caught and held for 30 days for a crime that carries a five-year sentence.
