Tesla Begins Model Y Deliveries in India, Expands EV Footprint
Tesla India starts deliveries of Model Y SUV with up to 622 km range, offers free wall connector for buyers. Experience centres launched in Mumbai and Delhi.
Tesla has officially started handing over its Model Y vehicles to customers in India, just two months after launching the SUV in July. The move marks a milestone for the American EV giant, which is steadily cementing its presence in the country’s growing electric mobility market.
Early buyers will also receive a complimentary wall connector, making at-home charging easier and encouraging smoother adoption of the EV lifestyle. The Model Y, already the world’s best-selling electric vehicle for two consecutive years, is being offered in two trims: a rear-wheel drive variant with a range of 500 km and a long-range edition capable of up to 622 km (WLTP). Deliveries for the Long Range version are expected to follow soon.
Tesla’s India push has been supported by its new customer touchpoints — the company opened its first experience centre in Mumbai in July, followed by a second in Delhi’s Aerocity in August.
Analysis: Tesla’s entry is more than just another car launch — it could reshape India’s auto industry. However, the success of EV adoption will depend heavily on local charging infrastructure and state-level policy support. For urban buyers, the convenience of home charging is a game-changer, but broader expansion into Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities will require public charging networks and government incentives.
