Telangana Municipal Results 2026 Live: Vote Counting Underway Amid Tight Security
Counting begins for Telangana municipal elections across 123 urban local bodies after 73% voter turnout. Heavy security, webcasting in place as Congress, BRS and BJP await verdict.
Ballot boxes opened at 8 am on Friday as counting commenced for Telangana’s municipal elections held across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. The outcome is being closely tracked as a key political indicator for the ruling Congress and its principal challengers, the BRS and BJP.
Since paper ballots were used in the February 11 polls, officials indicated that tabulation could take longer than electronic voting processes. Counting of postal ballots was taken up first before regular ballot scrutiny began.
Tight Security Around Counting Centres
The State Election Commission (SEC) confirmed that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth process. Prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS are in force around counting venues to prevent disturbances.
Only authorised personnel including counting supervisors, assistants, candidates and their designated agents — have been permitted inside the halls.
According to Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy, nearly 12,000 police personnel, along with armed contingents and Quick Response Teams, have been deployed statewide. Live webcasting is also being carried out inside counting centres and outside strong rooms to maintain transparency.
High Turnout Sets the Stage
More than 73% of eligible voters cast their ballots in what has been described as a largely peaceful polling exercise. The strong participation reflects heightened public interest in local governance, especially in urban areas grappling with infrastructure, sanitation and housing challenges.
Political observers note that municipal verdicts often shape grassroots momentum and influence future Assembly strategies. While final trends will emerge through the day, the results are expected to signal how urban voters are responding to governance claims and opposition campaigns across Telangana.
