Telangana High Court pulls up Medak Collector for delay in filing counter on ex-Maoist’s widow’s plea, sets Sept 24 as final deadline

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has expressed strong displeasure at the Medak District Collector for failing to file a counter affidavit in a petition filed by the widow of a surrendered Maoist. Justice K. Sharath directed that if the affidavit is not submitted by September 24, the Collector must appear before the court in person.

The case goes back to 1989, when former People’s War Group commander Naka Mohan (Nagavelli Mohan) surrendered under a state rehabilitation plan. Although the Intelligence IG later recommended the allotment of five acres of land, Mohan was killed by Maoists in 2003. His wife, Nagavelli, has since been fighting for the promised land.

After years of delays, she was briefly allotted one acre in Medak, only for the allotment to be cancelled due to ownership disputes. With no alternate land offered, Nagavelli approached the High Court in 2015.

During the latest hearing, the government’s counsel requested more time to respond, but the bench clarified that this was the final chance. The matter will be heard again on September 24.

The case highlights how bureaucratic apathy continues to deny justice to families of surrendered Maoists, despite government assurances. The HC’s stern warning may finally push the administration to act decisively.
