Telangana Housing Corporation claims progress under Indiramma housing scheme with ₹1,612 crore disbursed. Critics question gaps in delivery and Aadhaar-linked payments.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Housing Corporation Ltd (TGHCL) announced that ₹1,612 crore has been transferred to beneficiaries of the Indiramma housing scheme. Officials claim that construction has started for nearly 2.12 lakh homes, with more than 1.5 lakh beneficiaries already receiving installments directly in their bank accounts.

According to Managing Director V.P. Gautham, each eligible family is promised financial support of ₹5 lakh, released in phases depending on the stage of construction. He also urged those who haven’t received funds to update Aadhaar linkage with their bank accounts. Payments are reportedly released every Monday, with this week alone seeing a record ₹188.35 crore allocated for 17,000 houses.

Work is said to be moving quickly in over 12,000 villages and 4,000 municipal wards, with house-warming ceremonies being conducted in many areas.

However, critics argue that despite tall claims, many beneficiaries continue to struggle with delays, technical hurdles, and incomplete construction. Releasing money is only one part of the promise; ensuring timely completion and transparency in execution is where the government is being questioned.

If Telangana wants to showcase Indiramma as a model scheme, the focus must shift from publicity to accountability.
