Siddaramaiah to walk with Rahul Gandhi in Bihar’s Voter Adhikar Yatra on August 29; Shivakumar to join earlier.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday said he will take part in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar on August 29. The march, he noted, is meant to highlight alleged irregularities in the state’s electoral rolls ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections.
“Rahul Gandhi ji has taken out a yatra in Bihar. I will be joining him on August 29,” Siddaramaiah told reporters.
The 16-day yatra, currently on its sixth day, has already covered more than 1,300 km across 20 districts and will culminate in Patna on September 1. Congress leaders say the initiative is a direct response to “voter suppression” during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
CPI (ML) Liberation leader Dipankar Bhattacharya alleged that the yatra is about “vote theft” and the Election Commission’s “inaction” despite evidence of fake voter entries. He claimed that nearly 65 lakh names have already been excluded during the revision, warning that many more could be struck off once the process ends.
Indian Youth Congress president Uday Bhanu Chib added, “Rahul Gandhi has shown proof of the BJP’s fake vote tactics. With growing youth support, the BJP is left with nothing but using state power to suppress opponents.”
Meanwhile, Siddaramaiah also shared updates from Karnataka, announcing that Banu Mushtaq, winner of the 2025 International Booker Prize, will inaugurate this year’s Dasara Mahotsav on September 22. The celebrations will conclude with Vijaya Dashami on October 2, for which Union Minister Rajnath Singh has been invited.
The Voter Adhikar Yatra has emerged as a major opposition campaign in Bihar, seeking to build awareness on electoral transparency and challenge what leaders describe as attempts to disenfranchise millions of voters.
