Telangana CM Revanth Reddy says the next Assembly elections could be held in 2029 instead of 2028 if the Centre proceeds with constituency delimitation.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has claimed that the state's next Assembly elections may not be held in 2028 as scheduled if the Centre moves ahead with the proposed delimitation exercise. Speaking at a public meeting in Khammam on Friday, he said the polls could instead take place in May or June 2029.

The Chief Minister alleged that the Union government is making efforts to revive and pass the delimitation legislation in Parliament. According to him, Telangana's Assembly strength could increase from 119 to 182 seats, while Lok Sabha constituencies may rise from 17 to 26 after the exercise.

Expressing confidence in his party's prospects, Revanth Reddy said the Congress would return to power by securing a decisive majority in the expanded Assembly. He also targeted the BRS leadership, challenged its leaders politically, and highlighted his government's welfare initiatives while appealing for public support.

If delimitation proceeds, it could significantly reshape Telangana's political landscape and electoral strategy for all parties. However, any change in the election schedule will ultimately depend on constitutional and legal processes, making official decisions from the Election Commission and Parliament crucial.
