Telangana CM Revanth Reddy honors veteran Congress leader Ram Reddy Damodar Reddy by naming Sriram Sagar Phase 2 in Suryapet after him, recognizing his lifelong work for irrigation and rural welfare.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Sunday announced that Phase 2 of the Sriram Sagar project in Suryapet district will bear the name of Ram Reddy Damodar Reddy, paying tribute to the veteran Congress leader who passed away on October 2 after a prolonged kidney ailment.

At a memorial event held in his honor, Revanth Reddy described Damodar Reddy’s demise as “an irreparable loss” not only for the Congress party but also for the people of Nalgonda and nearby districts, where his political influence and welfare work ran deep.

Speakers at the gathering recalled his remarkable career five-time MLA and two-time minister in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh government emphasizing his dedication to irrigation reforms, equitable water distribution, and grassroots empowerment. He was credited with championing the Sri Ram Sagar Project and advocating for Godavari water allocations to parched regions.

What set Damodar Reddy apart, many noted, was his personal integrity. Despite being born into a prosperous family, he reportedly gave up significant property holdings to pursue public service an act of rare selflessness in modern politics.

Editorial Note: His story serves as a reminder that political leadership grounded in public good, rather than personal gain, continues to inspire Telangana’s developmental vision today. The CM’s gesture not only honors a leader’s memory but also reinforces the need to revive irrigation-based growth across drought-hit areas.
