Telangana CM Revanth Reddy blames the previous BRS regime for neglecting Krishna river rights, directs legal team to strongly argue for 904 TMC before KWDT hearings this month.

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday accused the BRS government of neglecting the state’s rights in the Krishna river water dispute. He asserted that Telangana is entitled to 904 TMC of water and instructed officials and legal experts to defend this claim vigorously before the Krishna Water Dispute Tribunal (KWDT) during its upcoming hearings on September 23–25.

At a review meeting with Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior officials and legal advisors, the Chief Minister said Telangana “must not lose even a drop” from its assured, surplus, or floodwater allocations. He directed the team to compile and present comprehensive evidence highlighting the “injustice” faced by Telangana both during the united Andhra Pradesh era and under 10 years of BRS governance.

Revanth alleged that the inaction of former CM K. Chandrashekar Rao had left key irrigation projects like Palamuru–Rangareddy and Dindi stalled. He also charged the previous regime with failing to counter Andhra Pradesh’s “illegal diversions” from the river.

With water scarcity a recurring issue for Telangana’s agriculture and drinking needs, the Krishna dispute has become a political flashpoint. By directly blaming the BRS, Revanth Reddy is positioning his government as the one determined to reclaim Telangana’s fair share, while also raising public expectations ahead of the KWDT verdict
