Pocharam Srinivas Reddy Says He’ll Accept Speaker’s Verdict, Ready to Quit If Supporters Object
Hyderabad: Banswada MLA Pocharam Srinivas Reddy on Thursday said he would abide by whatever decision Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar takes in the ongoing BRS MLAs disqualification hearings. Speaking at a meeting with his followers, Reddy clarified that he had contested and won the 2023 Assembly election on a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) ticket and, “technically,” remains a member of the party.
Reddy said his political moves were guided solely by his commitment to the development of Banswada constituency. “If my decision was wrong, I am ready to resign. You can even hit me with your chappal,” he told supporters, emphasizing his accountability to the people who elected him.
The senior leader also remarked that both former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and current CM Revanth Reddy had extended financial assistance for Banswada’s development, underlining that progress should rise above party lines.
Analysis: Pocharam’s remarks reflect the unease among legislators caught in Telangana’s ongoing defection row. His public readiness to resign appears aimed at balancing political loyalty with local accountability. The statement also underscores a broader sentiment in rural constituencies — that development, rather than partisanship, remains the decisive factor for voters.
