PM Modi launches ACITI tech partnership with Australia & Canada at G20 summit
At the G20 Summit in Johannesburg, PM Narendra Modi announced a trilateral Australia–Canada–India Technology and Innovation Partnership to boost cooperation in AI, clean energy and supply chain diversification.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a trilateral Technology and Innovation Partnership involving India, Australia and Canada, following a high-level meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.
Describing the initiative as a major step towards advancing global tech collaboration, PM Modi said the alliance – referred to as the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership – aims to elevate cooperation among the three nations across emerging sectors. According to him, the partnership will focus on artificial intelligence integration, clean energy solutions and resilient supply chain networks, leveraging the strengths of democratic partners from three different continents.
In his statement, the Prime Minister said the alliance will help shape technology-led progress and pave the way for a stronger future for upcoming generations. He also held separate discussions with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and UN Secretary-General António Guterres during the summit.
Analysis: By aligning with Australia and Canada, India positions itself strategically in the global tech ecosystem, especially as countries look for trusted partners amidst geopolitical shifts. This collaboration could benefit domestic startups and innovation hubs, offering new market access and research opportunities. However, to maximise impact, policy alignment and swift implementation will be key.
