The Ministry of Education is reviewing a major reform for NEET-UG, India’s largest medical entrance exam, with plans to shift from pen-paper to computer-based testing (CBT). The proposal, based on recommendations by the K. Radhakrishnan panel, also includes Aadhaar-based biometric verification at all centres from 2026 to prevent exam fraud.

Officials said the review will weigh the country’s digital infrastructure and compare outcomes with other CBT exams like JEE. NEET, with over twice the number of candidates as JEE, has faced criticism after paper leaks and cheating scandals delayed counselling this year.

The panel advised a gradual transition to avoid disadvantaging rural students and ensure smooth implementation. Another committee is also studying question papers to align exams with the Class 12 syllabus and reduce dependency on coaching institutes.

The final decision lies with the Ministry of Health, which oversees NEET admissions.
