More BRS MLAs Likely to Join Congress After Sankranti, Says TPCC Chief Mahesh
TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud hinted that several BRS MLAs may switch sides to Congress after Sankranti, as the party begins restructuring its state, district, and mandal committees.
Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) chief B Mahesh Kumar Goud on Saturday said that more BRS MLAs are expected to join Congress after the Sankranti festival, even as the party evaluates the controversial pro-KCR remarks of BRS-defected MLA Danam Nagender.
His statement comes amid speculation surrounding the possible arrest of BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao in the Formula E Race case. Goud confirmed that the Congress is carefully assessing the implications of inducting more BRS legislators, a move delayed so far due to socio-political factors.
On the upcoming Graduates’ and Teachers’ MLC elections, Goud said Congress is shortlisting five names for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency, with contenders including V Narender Reddy, former DSP M Gangadar, and Velishala Rajender. For the Teachers’ constituency, the party plans to extend support to association-backed candidates.
Meanwhile, the TPCC chief announced that the party has launched a major restructuring exercise — appointing fresh executive committees at state, district, and mandal levels and replacing inactive district presidents. The overhaul, as directed by AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal, is targeted for completion by January 2026.
The twin developments — likely BRS defections and party reorganisation — signal that Congress is gearing up strategically ahead of the MLC polls and the 2026 Assembly elections.
