Kavitha Says MLC Resignation Still Pending, Calls for Telangana Integration Day Recognition
Former BRS leader K. Kavitha confirms her resignation from the Legislative Council is yet to be approved, criticizes party leadership, and urges that September 17 be marked as Telangana Integration Day.
Hyderabad: K. Kavitha, former BRS leader and daughter of ex-chief minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, clarified on Tuesday that her resignation from the Legislative Council has not been finalized. She noted that the approval process is on hold since the Council Chairman is unavailable at present. Kavitha addressed reporters at the Telangana Jagruthi office in Banjara Hills while making this statement.
During the interaction, she emphasized that September 17 should be observed as Telangana Integration Day, stressing its importance in the state’s history. To mark the occasion, she hoisted the national flag at a program organized by Telangana Jagruthi.
Kavitha’s political troubles escalated earlier this month when the BRS leadership suspended her, citing actions “detrimental to the party.” Her suspension followed public criticism of senior leaders, including former minister T. Harish Rao and ex-MP J. Santosh Kumar, whom she accused of corruption and collusion with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. She also openly questioned the probe into the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, further straining ties within the party.
In response to her suspension, Kavitha tendered her resignation from both the BRS and her MLC seat, alleging an orchestrated plan to sideline her and fracture the Kalvakuntla family’s influence in Telangana politics. While her resignation is yet to be formally accepted, it has sparked debate about her next political steps and whether she intends to carve out an independent role.
Local Impact
Political observers believe her exit signals deeper rifts within the BRS, which could influence the balance of opposition voices in Telangana. For party workers and supporters, her suspension highlights growing internal rivalries at a time when the party is under pressure to rebuild. Analysts advise citizens to watch closely, as her eventual political choices may shape alliances ahead of the next elections.
