India voted in favour of a UN resolution allowing Palestine to address the UNGA after US visa denial. Critics question if symbolic moves are enough for justice.

India has once again expressed its support for Palestine by voting in favour of a UN resolution that allows Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to address the upcoming General Assembly session through a pre-recorded video. The move came after the United States denied visas to Palestinian officials, effectively blocking their in-person participation. While 145 countries supported the resolution, the US and Israel stood firmly against it.

The resolution reflects global frustration at America’s selective visa policy, which critics say undermines the very spirit of the United Nations. By voting in favour, India has reaffirmed its long-standing support for the two-state solution and its recognition of Palestine since 1988. However, questions remain: is this enough?

Symbolic votes and speeches may show solidarity, but they do little to ease the daily struggles of Palestinians facing occupation, blockades, and systemic denial of rights. If India truly stands with Palestine, critics argue, it must go beyond resolutions—using its diplomatic weight to push for stronger international action and accountability.

For now, India’s vote is a welcome gesture, but gestures alone cannot replace justice.
