Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Monday, September 8, heard public interest litigations (PILs) warning that road projects around KBR Park could lead to the loss of over 3,000 trees, severely affecting Hyderabad’s ecology.

The PILs, filed in 2016 by environmentalist K. Purushotham Reddy and others, challenge 2015 government orders approving flyovers and underpasses near the park. Petitioners argued the project would endanger wildlife and rare bird species in the green stretch.

A bench of Chief Justice Apresh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin directed the Union Ministry of Environment to file its counter-affidavit within six weeks.
