ECI to review nationwide rollout of Special Electoral Roll Revision
10 Sep 2025
New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) will hold a key meeting on Wednesday with Chief Electoral Officers from all states and UTs to discuss the nationwide implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The SIR aims to remove duplicate and deceased voters while ensuring timely inclusion of new ones, thereby improving accuracy and transparency in the voter list. The move follows controversy in Bihar, where opposition parties alleged large-scale deletions of voters from marginalised communities.
With assembly polls due next year in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry, the ECI is keen to standardise the process to avoid inconsistencies and ensure fairness.
