Amid leadership speculation in Karnataka, DK Shivakumar wishes CM Siddaramaiah well after his ‘five-year term’ statement, while MLAs in Delhi reportedly pitch for Shivakumar to be considered for the top post.

In the midst of intensifying political discussions within Karnataka Congress, Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC president DK Shivakumar on Friday reacted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s assertion that he would serve a full five-year term. “All the best to him,” Shivakumar said, choosing restraint amid growing speculation about leadership changes.

His comments come as several legislators have reportedly travelled to New Delhi to discuss cabinet reshuffling and advocate for Shivakumar’s elevation. The Deputy CM defended their visit, noting that ministers naturally seek opportunities when a reshuffle is anticipated.

Earlier in the day, Ramanagara MLA Iqbal Hussain claimed that the party high command had reacted “positively” to calls for Shivakumar to eventually be made Chief Minister, acknowledging his organisational efforts and electoral contributions.

Analysis: The exchange signals rising internal competition despite public displays of unity. While Shivakumar’s response appeared measured, the quiet mobilisation by his supporters suggests a potential shift in power dynamics. Political observers note that the timing ahead of a likely cabinet reshuffle could determine whether the Congress opts for continuity or strategic transformation.

For now, both leaders maintain cordiality, but the tussle over influence is increasingly visible within party circles.
