DK Shivakumar Proposes Diplomatic Tower in Bengaluru to House Foreign Missions
Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar suggests building a dedicated tower in Bengaluru for foreign diplomatic missions to boost international ties and ease infrastructure challenges.
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has proposed the construction of a dedicated tower for foreign diplomatic offices in Bengaluru to bring multiple consulates and missions under one roof. The idea was shared during his meeting with Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Gan Siow Huang, who inaugurated the new Enterprise Singapore Centre in the city.
Bengaluru currently hosts 31 foreign diplomatic missions, including consulates and high commissions scattered across different areas. Shivakumar said the proposed tower could accommodate offices of 40 to 50 countries, addressing long-standing issues related to space, coordination, and security. “Many foreign nationals live and work here, and several nations are eager to invest in Karnataka. This initiative would provide a one-time solution for all,” he noted.
Analysis: If implemented, the proposal could significantly enhance Bengaluru’s global image as a diplomatic and investment-friendly hub. A centralized diplomatic zone may also improve security, coordination, and ease of access for international representatives — aligning with the city’s growing status as India’s innovation and business capital.
