Congress Faces Internal Rift as Anjan Kumar Yadav Protests Jubilee Hills Ticket Decision
After Congress names Naveen Yadav for the Jubilee Hills by-election, party leaders rush to pacify veteran Anjan Kumar Yadav, who was reportedly mulling an independent contest.
Discontent has brewed within the Telangana Congress after the party’s decision to award the Jubilee Hills Assembly ticket to Naveen Yadav, sidelining senior leader and former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav. The move has triggered internal unrest, with reports suggesting that the veteran leader even considered contesting as an independent.
According to party insiders, Yadav had actively campaigned in the constituency for weeks, confident that his long-standing loyalty and four-decade service to the Congress would earn him the ticket. His exclusion, however, has left him visibly upset, and he is said to be weighing his options after consulting supporters.
Alarmed by the growing dissent, the Congress high command has dispatched senior figures—including AICC in-charges Meenakshi Natarajan and Viswanathan, along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Vivek Venkatswamy—to pacify Yadav and prevent a potential split in the party’s local ranks.
Meanwhile, Kanjerla Vijayalaxmi, daughter-in-law of former minister KLN Yadav, was also among those who had sought the same ticket, reflecting the intense internal competition for the seat.
Political Analysis: This episode underscores the persistent factionalism within Telangana Congress, especially as it tries to rebuild its ground presence. With the Jubilee Hills by-election seen as a prestige battle, internal unity could decide the party’s electoral fate. Political observers note that reconciling with senior leaders like Anjan Kumar Yadav is not just damage control—it’s a test of Congress’s organizational discipline ahead of larger political contests.
