Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Monday announced that 20 TMC of Godavari water will be brought to Hyderabad, of which 16 TMC will be used for drinking water and 4 TMC for rejuvenating the polluted Musi river.

Speaking at the foundation-laying ceremony of Phases II and III of the Godavari project, he said Nalgonda has long suffered due to Musi’s pollution and vowed to clean the river. Praising the foresight of the Nizam government in building Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar after the 1908 floods, Reddy said Hyderabad has benefited from that vision for decades.

The CM criticised the previous BRS government for stalling the Chevella project launched by former AP CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, promising to revive it through a new barrage at Tummidihatti to provide irrigation to Adilabad and Rangareddy farmers.

He added that if the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sabarmati rivers could be revived, Musi too could be restored, reiterating his commitment to make Hyderabad a world-class city under the Telangana Rising-2047 vision.
