The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) saw a steep fall in political donations during 2024–25, receiving only ₹15 crore — down from ₹580 crore the previous year — following its defeat in the Telangana Assembly elections.

BRS Sees Massive Funding Decline After Election Loss

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has reported a dramatic fall in donations during 2024–25, collecting only ₹15.09 crore, according to recent filings with the Election Commission of India. The sharp drop follows the party’s defeat in the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections.

Of the total, about ₹15 crore came through electoral trust funds, with a small share contributed by individuals. In contrast, during 2023–24, the K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led party received ₹580 crore, primarily via electoral bonds. The previous fiscal year, 2022–23, saw donations soar to ₹683 crore.

Analysis

The steep decline highlights how political funding often mirrors electoral fortunes — with corporate donors shifting their support to parties in power. For the BRS, the numbers suggest a recalibration of influence in state and national politics post-defeat.

Analysts believe this could also impact the party’s campaign strength and outreach capacity ahead of upcoming polls. As one expert noted, “When funding dries up, so does visibility — and rebuilding that trust takes more than slogans.”
