BJP Issues Strict Warning to Kunal Kamra Over ‘Derogatory’ RSS T-Shirt; Shiv Sena Demands Strong Action
Kunal Kamra’s photo in a T-shirt interpreted as mocking the RSS has drawn criticism from BJP leaders, who warned of police action. Supporters cite RSS-linked schools’ impact, reigniting discussions on free speech and satire.
Comedian Kunal Kamra has stirred a fresh controversy after sharing a photo wearing a T-shirt labelled “PSS” alongside a dog graphic, which many interpreted as a satirical swipe at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The image, widely circulated on social media, was seen by critics as an intentional mockery through wordplay and visual symbolism.
BJP leaders, including Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Ram Kadam, condemned the post, calling it derogatory. They warned that publishing such content online may invite police action, signalling a zero-tolerance approach toward perceived insults aimed at ideological groups.
Meanwhile, supporters countered the criticism by pointing to RSS-affiliated Vidya Bharati schools, which reportedly educate more than 3.2 million students across 12,700 locations at subsidised fees. Alumni highlighted positive experiences to counter negative portrayals.
This incident brings to the forefront the growing tension between political sensitivity and creative expression. While satire has long been a tool for commentary, reactions suggest a narrowing space for dissent in the public domain. At the same time, the defence highlighting educational contributions reflects attempts to steer the discussion toward legacy and service rather than social media confrontation.
