Asaduddin Owaisi on ‘Marwari Go Back’ Campaign: Don’t Give Importance

Hyderabad: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi downplayed the ongoing ‘Marwari Go Back’ campaign in Telangana, saying it should not be given undue importance. “Some social media campaigns are happening, some reports here and there… Should we give importance to it? I don’t think so,” he told reporters.
The campaign began after an alleged assault by the management of a jewellery store in Secunderabad’s Monda Market on a man from a marginalized community over a parking dispute. Following this, trade bodies and Dalit groups accused Marwari traders of unethical practices, adulterated goods, and causing losses to local businesses, and launched the campaign.
The movement gained traction with support from some Dalit activists and local traders. A bandh was observed across several Telangana districts on August 22.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders including Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, Hyderabad MP Madhavi Latha, and Goshamahal MLA T. Raja Singh extended support to the Marwari community. Owaisi cautioned against escalating the issue, remarking that “some issues will keep happening, but stretching them further is not good.”
