Activist Pushes for Action on Waqf Land Grabs, Chairman Azmatullah Husseni Promises Review of CWC Report
Hyderabad activist urges FIRs and CBI probe into Waqf land issues flagged in the 2018 CWC report. Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni assures review and corrective steps.
Hyderabad: Social activist and Congress leader Dr. Lubna Sarwath recently visited the Telangana Waqf Board office to meet its Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni, demanding urgent action on land-grab issues flagged in the 2018 CWC report.
The activist raised concerns over multiple issues — from the bulldozing of Kodangal graveyards without proper procedure to failures in appealing High Court orders and lapses in reconciling Waqf and revenue records before uploading them to the ‘Umeed’ portal. She argued that such negligence has left Waqf properties vulnerable and questioned why the CWC report was suppressed for years.
Dr. Sarwath also pointed to pending inquiries against individuals accused of mismanagement, warning that lack of accountability was enabling further loss of Waqf lands.
In response, Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseni assured her that he would carefully examine the CWC report and consider necessary action. His commitment was seen as a positive step, with activists hoping this marks the beginning of stronger oversight and protection of community assets.
While the allegations underline years of neglect, the Chairman’s assurance provides a chance to rebuild trust. For Telangana’s Waqf institutions, timely and transparent action could restore credibility and safeguard properties for future generations.
